Pack to the 100ml standard to be safe unless you're confident you can reach a CT-equipped checkpoint.
  • FrankfurtFRACT scanners now cover most Terminal 1 checkpoints and all of Terminal 3 — 2L containers allowed, no bag needed, for the large majority of departing passengers. The old 100ml + transparent bag rule still applies at: Gates C1, C2, C4, C6 (dedicated gate-side checkpoints in Terminal 1 Concourse C), certain special-purpose checkpoints in Terminal 1, and all transfer/connecting-passenger checkpoints. Check your departure gate under 'Departures' before packing — if you're departing from one of those gates or connecting through FRA, pack to 100ml to be safe.
  • MunichMUC2L only at CT-equipped lanes (Terminal 1 Module D level 5, Terminal 1 Pier, Terminal 2 central checkpoint); you may be directed to a conventional lane where 100ml applies — pack 100ml to be safe.

Coverage is expanding gradually and the airport's own page hasn't been updated to reflect it yet — confirmed via a July 2026 news report and a traveler's firsthand account of clearing Fast Track with 2L containers.

Why the rule is changing

New CT scanners build a 3D image of your bag, so security can clear liquids without the old restrictions. Airports that finish installing (and get approval) can allow containers up to 2 litres — and liquids and laptops stay in your bag.

Frequently asked questions

Which airports have lifted the 100 ml liquid rule?

A growing list, mostly in the UK and EU: London Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin, Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate and others now allow containers up to 2 litres. Some airports (like Frankfurt, Munich, Milan Malpensa or Prague) only allow it at certain terminals or lanes. Every US checkpoint still enforces the standard limit.

Can I bring full-size toiletries if my airport lifted the rule?

At the airports that fully lifted the limit, yes — containers up to 2 litres can stay in your bag. But check your whole trip first: if your return airport still enforces 100 ml, anything bigger can't come back in your carry-on.

Why do I still need 100 ml bottles for my return flight?

Liquid rules apply where you pass security, not where you land. Flying out of Heathrow with a 500 ml bottle is fine — but if your return flight departs from an airport with the standard limit, that same bottle will be confiscated there. Pack for the strictest checkpoint on your route.

Do duty-free liquids count against the limit?

No — liquids bought after security, sealed in a tamper-evident bag with the receipt, are handled under separate rules. Keep the bag sealed if you have a connecting flight where you're re-screened.
