Airport liquid rules in Germany

Single central checkpoint (Terminal 1) is fully equipped with CT scanners — no lane selection needed, the new rules apply airport-wide. Containers up to 2L must be leak-proof/spill-proof and can stay in your bag, no plastic bag required; non-spill-proof containers (e.g. takeaway coffee cups) can't be screened by the CT scanner and will be refused.

Liquids and gels may remain in hand luggage and do not need a 1-litre bag. Containers must be leak-proof; coffee-to-go cups and other non-leak-proof containers are not accepted.

CT scanners at security areas 1 & 5 (Terminal 1) and the Terminal 2 checkpoint allow liquids up to 2L without a resealable bag; conventional scanners remain at areas 2 & 4 in Terminal 1 (100ml + transparent 1L bag). The airport's own guidance says passengers cannot reliably predict or choose which checkpoint they'll be routed through, though some travelers report being able to pick their lane in practice. Pack to the 100ml standard to be safe unless you're confident you can reach a CT-equipped checkpoint.

CT scanners now cover most Terminal 1 checkpoints and all of Terminal 3 — 2L containers allowed, no bag needed, for the large majority of departing passengers. The old 100ml + transparent bag rule still applies at: Gates C1, C2, C4, C6 (dedicated gate-side checkpoints in Terminal 1 Concourse C), certain special-purpose checkpoints in Terminal 1, and all transfer/connecting-passenger checkpoints. Check your departure gate under 'Departures' before packing — if you're departing from one of those gates or connecting through FRA, pack to 100ml to be safe.
